Speaker Bio

Dan Cooke
Administrator, Licensing, Endorsements, and Traffic Safety Program
Washington State Department of Licensing

Dan has worked at Washington’s Department of Licensing since 2016; first as Senior Research Analyst focused on Young Driver, Motorcyclist, and other traffic safety initiatives and currently as the Administrator for the department’s Licensing, Endorsements, and Traffic Safety (LETS) Program.

The LETS team oversees curriculum development, training, testing, school and instructor licensing for novice drivers, commercial drivers, and motorcyclists in addition to maintaining traffic safety education and awareness programs for these high-risk road users. The Licensing Endorsements and Traffic Safety program is dedicated to fostering a culture of safe driving and riding through innovative education, rigorous assessments, and accessible licensing processes. We strive to continuously improve driver and rider knowledge, skills, and behaviors, through Leadership and Innovation, Equity and Access, Education and Assessment, Community and Outreach, Legislation and Regulation, and Partnership and Support ultimately leading to a significant reduction in roadway fatalities and serious injury crashes in Washington and beyond.

Prior to working at DOL he retired from the US Army after nearly 23 years of service as an Intelligence Analyst and Instructor. While working at DOL, he has found a passion for traffic safety and realizes that our shared goals should not be just to have zero traffic fatalities, but to change the way the people of Washington think about being safe while on the road.
