Capt. Joseph Romero
New Mexico State Police

Captain Joseph Romero hails from Taos, located in Northern New Mexico. He became a New Mexico State Police Officer in 2007. He has risen through the ranks, starting as a K-9 officer, and is now the Captain of the Commercial Motor Vehicle (CVE) Bureau. He and his staff manage all New Mexico Port of Entries located throughout the state and oversees 117 employees, which includes both commissioned officers and non-commissioned employees.

As the Captain of CVE, Joseph has enhanced the overall mission and modernization of the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement service in his tenure. New Mexico Port of Entry facilities have been updated and improved by utilizing newer technology to better assist CVE personnel in identifying non-compliant motor vehicles and the drivers of commercial motor vehicles. Captain Romero, in conjunction with the NM State Personnel office, has restructured and brought current CVE personnel pay to better improve overall retention and hiring to an all-time high. Captain Romero is a very mission focused leader with a fine eye for attention to detail. He and his team are focused on the zero goal of elimination and minimization of CMV related crashes and injuries on New Mexico highways.
