Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD)

A collection of hardware and software that serves as a system which can provide a method of dispatching taxicabs, couriers, field service technicians, emergency services, demand-response bus services, etc. It can either be used to send messages to the driver via a mobile data terminal (MDT) and/or used to store and retrieve data. CAD systems use one or more servers located in a central dispatch office, that communicate with mobile data terminals installed in the remote vehicles. The purpose of CAD is to quicken the information which is received or transmitted from the call-taker or dispatcher to those who will facilitate the original call.
