About Us
The Center for Surface Mobility Applications & Real-Time Simulation environments (SMARTSeSM) delivers research and educational products that focus on technology innovations in autonomous performance assessments of the multimodal transportation infrastructure (roadways, railways, pipelines) to reduce cost and enhance safety, security, and efficiency. Principal investigators combine both basic and applied research to incubate and demonstrate new technologies and applications that leverage rapid innovations in wireless communications, sensing, the internet-of-things (IoT), big data analytics, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. The center collaborates with a wide variety of internal and external organizations to advance the state-of-the-art in Smart Cities, shared mobility services, unmanned aircraft systems, connected and autonomous vehicles.
