AbstractThe purpose of this study was to review, assess and analyze existing conditions for the area surrounding Century Elementary School, identify traffic operations and pedestrian safety issues, and propose methods for addressing these issues. Field data revealed some unsafe practices related to the school access, traffic circulation within the school grounds, and parking. Several short- and long-term improvements were identified, including modifying school access and the bus loading area, constructing a new parking lot, building a raised crosswalk for the main school entrance, increased enforcement, and targeted education to students and parents.
