Title: | An Application of ITS for Incident Management in Second-Tier Cities |
End Date: | August 1999 |
Status: | Completed |
Keywords: | case studies, incident management, intelligent transportation systems, traffic simulation |
Abstract
The benefits of an incident management system (IMS) are well known in large urban areas; however, little information is available about the feasibility of such a system in small-medium size urban areas. The INTEGRATION traffic simulation model was used to estimate the potential benefits of an IMS for a case study using I-29 in Fargo, North Dakota. Travel times and average speeds were significantly improved using a combination of traveler information and traffic management strategies.
