Terrorism and Transportation Security

The threat of today's terrorism poses a daunting challenge to national transportation systems. In the face of the kinds of adaptive enemies like we are dealing with today, security measures that terrorists cannot reliably plan against are critical. This presentation will examine recent innovations in transportation security now being fielded across sector that are specifically designed to frustrate terrorists seeking to inflict damage to our nation's transportation systems.

Jarret Bachman, Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute – NDSU

Dr. Jarret Brachman is a recognized specialist on counterterrorism. Jarret currently serves as an Associate Research Fellow at North Dakota State University's Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute in his hometown of Fargo, ND. He also maintains a Research Fellow affiliation with the Combating Terrorism Center. He has served with the Central Intelligence Agency's Counterterrorist Center and Jarret routinely advises local, state and federal law enforcement, intelligence, military agencies and the private sector on counterterrorism and homeland security issues. He has testified before the House Armed Services Committee and the British House of Lords and his research has been featured on 60 Minutes, CNN, the New York Times and in a number of international documentaries. Jarret's recent book, Global Jihadism: Theory and Practice, was published in August 2008 by Routledge Press.
