Scott Hernandez recently joined FMCSA as the new Regional Field Administrator for the West. Scott served for 30 years with Colorado State Patrol, working his way up the ranks before retiring as Colonel. He began his career as a Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA)-certified inspector and size and weight officer assigned to the Colorado Port of Entry. Later, Scott served as a State Trooper before being promoted to Sargent, and later, as a Captain in the Motor Carrier Safety Section.
Throughout his distinguished career, Scott has lent his expertise to FMCSA on multiple occasions. He has served on the Agency's Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee (MCSAC), including leading the Committee as its Chairman. He has provided outstanding contributions to many FMCSA activities, ranging from the very earliest collaboration and planning resulting in today's Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) program, to the efficient management and oversight of Colorado's Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) and High Priority (HP) grants.
A longtime Colorado member of CVSA, Scott has also served on special task force work groups for the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA). Scott is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, the FBI Academy Leadership Institute and the Northwestern Police Staff and Command School.
