Dave Sprynczynatyk

The award recognizes Major General David Sprynczynatyk's leadership as chair of the UGPTI's advisory board from 2003 to 2006. Before assuming the duties of the Adjutant General of North Dakota in 2006, Sprynczynatyk was named the North Dakota Director of Transportation in 2001. He began his career in government in 1972 with the State Water Commission, ultimately becoming the State Engineer in 1989.

Sprynczynatyk is a Registered Professional Engineer and a member of both the North Dakota Society of Professional Engineers and the National Society of Professional Engineers. He was elected president of the Western Association of State Highway Transportation Officials in 2005 and elected vice-president of the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials in 2005.

He is a graduate of Wilton High School, Wilton, North Dakota. He earned a B.S. degree in civil engineering from NDSU in 1972 and graduated from the U.S. Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania, in 1998.

As adjutant general, he commands 4,500 North Dakota Air and Army National Guard men and women, with approximately 1,100 full time federal and state employees. He is responsible for federal and state missions, is the Director of the North Dakota Department of Emergency Services consisting of two Divisions; the Division of Homeland Security and the Division of State Radio Communications.
