High-Res
Brant Malsam

Brant Malsam has dedicated his career to supporting infrastructure projects and engineering industry professionals. With decades of experience supporting public and private projects of all sizes and complexity, Malsam has impacted not only the engineering profession but specifically transportation and municipal practices. As a project manager on significant transportation projects across North Dakota, he planned, designed, and oversaw projects such as the Liberty Memorial Bridge in Bismarck-Mandan; the Bismarck Airport Commercial Aviation Terminal; Century Avenue in Bismarck; Highways 1804, 83, and 23; the roads acting as dams for the Spirit Lake Reservation; and the Coal Haul Road bridge across Highway 15 for the Coteau Freedom Mine's 600-ton trucks.

Following his service in the U.S. Army, Malsam earned his B.S. degree in civil engineering from NDSU. Upon graduation in 1979, he began working for Ulteig Engineers in its Bismarck Office. Malsam oversaw Ulteig's operations in western North Dakota until 2009. He spent the last six years of his consulting career as a divisional leader for KLJ, where he played a key role in multiple significant transportation projects, and was often a key liaison for federal, state, Tribal, and client stakeholders. Malsam's strong communication skills contributed to the success of those projects as he facilitated public input on large complex projects. He also led KLJ's intensive project management training courses, which were dedicated to sharing techniques, processes, programs, and experiences. He coached and mentored staff, on technical aspects as well as communication and liaison efforts. After KLJ, Malsam spent two years working part time for UGPTI in its Bismarck office on the Innovations Program, which UGPTI oversaw for NDDOT.

Malsam served in the Army and the North Dakota National Guard. He held professional engineering licenses in North Dakota and South Dakota and earned an associate's degree in liberal arts from Bismarck State College. Malsam was active in the Bismarck-Mandan communities and legislative matters affecting the engineering profession. Malsam and his wife, Nancy, live in Bismarck along with their children and grandchildren.
