Dale Anderson

Dale Anderson was director of the Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute from 1972-1974. He served on the UGPTI Advisory Council representing the Greater North Dakota Association from 1997 to 2004, and he served as chair of the council from 2000 to 2002.

"As director, Dale was responsible for putting the institute on a sound footing in terms of both personnel and budget," notes Gene Griffin, current UGPTI director. "His contributions as director are responsible for the institute's continued existence today."

Anderson retired as president of the Greater North Dakota Association in 2003. Anderson began work at the GNDA, North Dakota's state chamber of commerce, in 1974 directing the group's agricultural, transportation and governmental affairs activities. He was named executive vice-president in 1979 and served as president from 1981 until his retirement in 2003.

Anderson has served in a number of state and national organizations. He has also been active with North Dakota State University where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees. Anderson is on the NDSU Development Foundation Board of Trustees and Executive Committee and is past president of NDSU Team Makers. His professional career began as a professor in agricultural economics at NDSU in 1963. He was professor of agricultural economics until 1974 and director of the N.D. Water Resources Research Institute from 1968 to 1974. Anderson has also written numerous widely-published articles dealing with various aspects of agricultural production and marketing and water resource development and use. His doctorate in agricultural economics is from Oklahoma State University.

Anderson is extensively involved in political activities, legislative programs and civic affairs. He serves on the Governor's Military Issues Task Force and the Board of Directors of the North Dakota Consensus Council. Nationally, he served as vice president of the Council of State Chambers of Commerce and as a member of the agricultural, small business and chamber of commerce committees of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Anderson was district governor of Toastmasters International and was honored with the Distinguished Toastmaster Award. He is an active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Kiwanis, Masonic Lodge, Republican Party and the Elks.
