Connected Autonomous Vehicle Data Provide Clues to Improved Evacuations

Posted: Jan 29, 2024

Researchers at North Dakota State University’s Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute are using data from autonomous and connected vehicles to learn how to improve evacuation in the event of disasters like wildfire. Use of these data and traffic simulations will significantly improve evacuation planning, potentially reducing accidents and congestion, leading to safer and smoother evacuations.

In addition, the research provides valuable insights for targeted marketing and development of AV technology, potentially increasing adoption rates and providing economic benefits to the AV industry.
