Research Leads to Specifications for Highway Durability Test

Posted: Apr 14, 2023

A test with known repeatability that can easily and reliably evaluate the potential of asphalt mixtures for cracking will result in significant savings for transportation agencies. The IDEAL-CT test is a promising candidate that has been adopted by many agencies. Research at the University of Utah resulted in protocol specifications for handling material and sample compaction to reduce variability in testing. The research also revealed areas for additional research to assure that results from the text correlate to improved highway performance.
